Miguel was born in Rochester, NY and raised in nearby Victor, NY. He attended Victor Central High School and graduated in 1999. While at Victor, Miguel was president of the Youth to Youth (a drug and alcohol free group for high school and middle school students) and worked with the non-profit organization Prevention Partners to arrange multiple conferences for over 500 high school students in the Upstate New York Area. In his senior year, Miguel won the senior leadership award and was also named captain of the varsity lacrosse team.
Miguel received a B.A. in Economics and Political Science in 2003 from Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA. He was active in both Omicron Delta Epsilon (Economics Honor Society) and Pi Sigma Alpha (Political Science Honor Society). Miguel also served as a community service chair working with Lycoming sports teams to help in and around the Williamsport area.
After finishing college, Miguel decided to pursue a career in the financial services industry. Miguel worked for a personal financial planning firm for a year before joining a larger company that focused on institutional investment planning. After two years at this position, and much thought, Miguel was ready for a career change.
Miguel went to work for a small internet business as a territory manager. With no prior knowledge in this industry, Miguel tackled the phones and eventually became the top sales rep. When a new business plan was established, Miguel jumped at the chance and was promoted to the role of Business Development Manager. In this position, Miguel focused on establishing strategic partnerships with Web 2.0 and Fortune 500 companies.
Miguel successfully ran multiple deals concurrently and participated in every aspect of the deal from introduction, negotiation, and finalizing the contract. As the company again switched business models, the business development department was phased out.
Instead of pursuing other career opportunities, Miguel decided to pursue his M.B.A. at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Miguel graduated from the E. Philip Saunders College of Business @ RIT in May, 2009 with a concentration in Entrepreneurship focusing on digital technology and marketing. While at RIT, Miguel took on leadership roles throughout the Saunders College of Business. He served as President of the Graduate Management Association and served on the Dean's Student Executive Board and the Student Affairs Committee. Miguel was also named the graduate student delegate for the class of 2009, allowing him the privilege of speaking on behalf of his class during the commencement ceremony.
